Counselling

Financial Counseller

Duties:
To assist clients with information and options regarding their financial situation. Assistance may include preparing a budget and ongoing planning of finances with the client, to advocacy on behalf of a client with creditors or government agencies.
Days:
Monday to Friday
Hours:
10am to 3pm or to suit counsellor
Frequency:
One day a week or to suit counsellor
Skills: An interest in financial matters. Completion of the Financial Counselling Training course and Basic Counselling Skills are a pre-requisite.

Helpers

Home delivered meals (formerly Meals on Wheels)

Duties:
Deliver meals (with a driver) to people who are frail, aged and younger people with a disability who live in the Ryde Municipality in their own homes.
Days:
Monday to Sunday
Hours:
11 am to 1:00 pm
Frequency:
To suit volunteer - once a week, fortnightly, monthly, occasional

Bus outing - Mandarin or Cantonese speaking

Duties:
Assist and care for clients on bus outings to interesting locations in Sydney and Greater Sydney. Involves serving morning and afternoon teas.
Days:
Tuesday monthly
Hours:
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Frequency:
To suit volunteer
Skills:
Speak Mandarin or Cantonese and English

Bus Shopping Volunteers

Duties:
Accompany clients on shopping bus and then assist individual client to do their shopping. May involve pushing shopping trolley and/or carrying shopping
Days:
Relief for Tuesdays or Fridays fortnightly
Hours:
9am - 1 pm
Frequency:
To suit volunteer
Skills:
Reasonable level of fitness

Tutors
Leisure Learning

Duties:
Share skills or hobbies with adults attending daytime leisure learning classes. Held on weekdays during school terms at Eastwood, West Ryde or North Ryde.
Days:
Monday - West Ryde
Tuesday - North Ryde
Thursday - Eastwood
Hours:
One or two hours between 9am and 3pm
Frequency:
Weekly during school term
Essential:
Skill or hobby. Ability to teach, Patience.

Chinese Leisure Learning

Duties:
Share skills or hobbies with adults attending daytime leisure learning classes. Held during school terms at Eastwood.
Days:
Tuesday – Carlingford
Wednesday - Epping
Hours:
One or two hours between 9am and 2pm

English Conversation

Duties:
Teach spoken English to adults in small classes during school terms. Classes are held at Eastwood, Marsfield and Epping
Days:

Monday - Eastwood
Wednesday – Marsfield
Thusday - Epping
Friday –Eastwood

Hours:
10am - 12 noon
Frequency:
Weekly during school term
Essential:
English as your 1st language
Patience

Car Drivers

Medical Transport

Duties: Pick up clients from their own homes and drive them to and from their medical appointment. Drivers are given petrol vouchers.
Hours: Weekday -according to medical appointment
Frequency: To suit volunteer
Essential: Current drivers licence

Other Driving

Duties: To transport and assist clients to a variety of destinations eg to visit relative in nursing home; to the hairdressers; to a shopping centre to do their shopping; to and from social groups. Drivers are given petrol vouchers.
Hours: Weekday - according to service required
Frequency: To suit volunteer
Essential: Current drivers licence Possible use of CCA car

Bus Drivers

Duties: To transport people to and from shopping or luncheon groups or day outings using a 14 seater mini bus. Volunteer helpers assist the drivers.
Days: Monday to Saturday
Hours: Depends on group – either half or full day between 9am and 4.30pm
Frequency: To suit volunteer
Essential: LR bus licence

Volunteer visitors

Duties: Volunteers are matched with isolated or housebound people who live in their own homes to provide friendly companionship. Visitors who speak English and/or who speak another language are needed.
Hours: To suit volunteer and client
Frequency: Once a week/fortnight
Desirable: A driver licence is desirable but not essential.

Chinese Speaking Volunteer Visitors

Duties: Chinese speaking volunteers are matched with isolated or housebound people who live in their own homes to provide friendly companionship.
Hours: To suit volunteer and client
Frequency: Once a week/fortnight
Essential: Speak Cantonese or Mandarin
A driver licence is desirable but not essential.
